The SatoGoji (サトーゴジ, lit. SatōGoji) is the Godzilla design that appears in the Godzilla Kyushu trilogy, starting with Godzilla 1980 (2017).

Name[]

The SatoGoji's name comes from Godzilla's enemy opponent in Godzilla 1980, Satkuma (サトーくま, lit. Satōkuma), and Godzilla's Japanese name, Gojira (ゴジラ).

Design[]

The SatoGoji's design is identical to the S.H.MonsterArts Godzilla 2000 Millennium Special Color version figure.

History[]

Godzilla 1980[]

Main article: Godzilla 1980

After the original Godzilla died in 1954, a second one, mutated from the same source of origin as the original, awoke from a deep slumber, and hibernated to islands off the coast of Japan, resting for many years.

In 1980, this second Godzilla was awoken by the presence of fishing boats near his island. The nuclear beast then attacked the boats and sank several.

Eventually, Godzilla traveled thousands of miles away from Japan and appeared in Hawaii. Godzilla attacked Honolulu and retreated to the sea.

It was discovered that both Godzilla and Satkuma, a new bat-like kaiju that had just appeared in Japan, were on an unintentional collision course for San Fransisco.

After Satkuma arrived in the evacuated San Fransisco, Godzilla followed not too long after, and appeared in the city. Suddenly, Godzilla's mind was taken control of by the psychic girl Miki Saegusa in order to have Godzilla fight Satkuma without attacking the military forces mobilized there. After looking around the city, Godzilla discovered Satkuma, and the two fought. Eventually, Godzilla weakened Satkuma with a nuclear pulse, dragged him out to sea, and killed him with the kiss of death. However, the American military dropped a powerful hydrogen warhead on Godzilla, and the King of the Monsters, free from Miki's control, took the full force of the blast to protect the city, but it knocks him down. Early the next morning, however, Godzilla awakened and returned to the sea, but not before letting out one final roar.

Trivia[]

  • The SatoGoji was originally intended to be the regular Godzilla 2000 design, Max Carroll's all time favorite Godzilla design, but it was switched to the concept color because it was believed it would fit better with the film's narrative.
  • The SatoGoji was also intended to be 55 meters during production, but was bumped up to 60 because several fan productions of Max Carroll's already featured 55 meter Godzillas.
